In Our World

WMBC Missions

Missions are an important part of WMBC, and our mission opportunities allow individuals to live out the Great Commission. Each year we partner with an organization to support mission work through resources or personnel. We encourage you to prayerfully consider to join us to serve Christ, His people, and world throughout the year.

Our mission work has been everything from helping families recover from Harvey through manual and skilled labor, going to the Mexican border and into Mexico proper to help those seeking refuge in our country, and going to Huehuetenango, Guatemala to help an orphanage with supplies, skilled labor, and letting the people there know that they are loved and worthy of love.

Rio Grand Valley Mission Trip

For the past five years we have served the Rio Grande Valley.  On Martin Luther King weekend, Labor Day weekend, and Memorial Day weekend we take a team to serve on the Texas and Mexico border.  We partner with Team Brownsville and Humanitarian Respite Center to serve refugees, asylum seekers, and our neighbors in Mexico.  This hands-on experience is open to anyone in the community.  For more information or to sign up, please contact Elias Garcia.

Guatemala Mission Trip

In the middle of July we take a team to serve the children at Fundación Salvación, an orphanage in Huehuetenango, Guatemala.  Our team leads a Bible club, do work projects on the property, take the children on field trips and most importantly we share God’s love with each child.  Though our trip for 2020 has been canceled, we will continue to serve them as soon as we can. For more information or to sign up, please contact Elias Garcia.

5th Sunday Service Day

Each 5th Sunday of the month we go out into our community to serve our neighbors.  At 9:30 am we worship together in our sanctuary and at 10:30 am we go out to serve our community.  On May 31 we will participate in a Human Trafficking City Tour led by Butch and Nell Green, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Personnel.  This tour will show us high-probability trafficking areas in our city, teach us how to be more conscientious of businesses that might be participating in human trafficking, and help us better support both victims of human trafficking and the organizations fighting against it.  We would love for you to join us.  For more information or to sign up, please contact Elias Garcia.

Operation Christmas Child

National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child, a mission project of the Ladies Bible Study, is November 12-19, 2018. The boxes are currently located outside of the Sanctuary and will be collected through Sunday, November 4th. Items suggested for filling the boxes are: small toys (nothing with batteries), school supplies, washcloth, soap, person items such as combs, hair brush and toothbrush (no toothpaste).

Missions Support

WMBC is a major supporter of missions in the city and around the world. A percentage of every offering we take goes to support the work of our local Braes Interfaith Ministries, the Union Baptist Association of greater Houston, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and Global Missions of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. In addition each November is our Missions Emphasis month where we take a special offering to support the above work as well as urban ministry in the city, special missions projects, Baptist World Alliance, and our own WMBC mission work both locally and internationally.
