In Our Community

Braes Interfaith Ministries

Braes Interfaith Ministries (BIM) - a collaboration of Judeo-Christian Congregations - provides physical, spiritual, and emotional assistance to persons in need within selected zip codes in Southwest Houston: 77025, 77035, 77045, 77051, 77053, 77054, 77071, 77085, 77096. The member congregations along with the community supports Braes Interfaith Ministries by providing financial support, food, clothing, items for the resale shop, and support for special activities such as the School Supplies Program and the Holiday Food Baskets.

BIM has served our community for 39 years.  During Covid, as well as during the aftereffects, BIM has remained open to serve the community.  Eloy Montez and his staff of volunteers continue to serve the community by distributing food to an average of 530 families per month, which includes over 1,815 family members per month. A little over 50% of those helped are children and seniors. The number of families served has increased almost 30% from last year. Financial Assistance is available again for disconnected utility bills.  Ryan Kreipe and his staff also provide free clothing to clients as well as other items for sale to the community. Each month, an average of 175 families redeem their vouchers and 671 persons are served with free clothing worth ~$16,500 per month.

Souper Bowl of Caring Donations

In 1990, it began with a simple prayer: “Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat”.  Now, it is a national movement where individuals and groups collect dollars for food and send them to a local food bank of their choice.

WMBC ‘s donations are given to Braes Interfaith Ministries, who continues to serve more families than in the past.  Of the family members served, over 52% are children and seniors.

If you would like to give online, please click the button below, select “Click Here to Give Online”, scroll to the bottom of the page and add your preferred amount to the “Souper Bowl of Caring” line by Sunday, February 11th. If you would like to give by check, please designate “Souper Bowl of Caring” in the memo section and place it in the offering plate or mail it to the church offices.

Shearn Elementary

WMBC is happy to partner with Shearn Elementary, an HISD school in the Willow Meadows Neighborhood that teaches K-5th grade. We have a love for teachers and we seek to serve them, be it through goodie bags, classroom support, or encouraging prayers. If you are looking for a place to serve where you can make a big difference, please consider Shearn Elementary.

 5th Sunday Service Day

Whenever there is a 5th Sunday, we focus specifically on ways in which we can better serve our community and neighbors. We participate in multigenerational projects with a wide range of activities. Some projects are completed on campus at WMBC while others are physically out in the community.

We regularly partner with Houston Welcomes Refugees, and take time on 5th Sundays to assemble welcome kits for refugees and their families who have come from all over the world and are resettling in the Houston area. We have a new partnership with Angela House, which ministers to women transitioning from incarceration. Our next 5th Sunday will take place in March, 2024.

Hospitality Apartments

Hospitality Apartments provides free temporary housing and a safe, welcoming, comfortable, supportive environment for families in need who are receiving medical treatment at any of the medical care facilities in the Texas Medical Center. Our ministry team helps making their life a little easier by providing meals for the families. This has been temporarily stopped until it’s safe to meet again.
